Located 3.5 hours from Cusco, in the Cloud Forest ecosystem, is Machupícchu. Inca city built on a mountain relief with amazing views. Access can be through the Sacred Valley of the Incas, the Inca Trail or the Santa María - Santa Teresa jungle area.
The built-up area in Machu Picchu is 530 meters long by 200 meters wide and includes at least 172 enclosures. The archaeological complex is divided into: agricultural area, formed by sets of cultivation terraces, located to the south, and urban area, which is, the residential area, where civil and religious activities took place. There is a separation between both areas given by a wall, a pit and a staircase.
It is warm and humid during the day and cool at night. The temperature is between 12 and 24 degrees Celsius. There is a predominance of rain, especially between November and March with low fog.
The archaeological site is located on the Vilcabamba batholith, made up of intrusive rocks approximately 250 million years old, mainly white and greyish granite, cut by some veins of tonalites and talcescysts.
