It is located northeast of the city of Cusco, considered as the summer abode of the most important Inca leaders. This valley contains archaeological sites of great importance such as; Pisaq, Ollantaytambo, Huchuyqosqo among others.
In the Sacred Valley of the Incas there are beautiful colonial towns showing their miscegenation in architecture, art and living culture. We can find towns like; Chinchero and its weavers, Písac and its artisan fair, Urubamba capital of the province, Ollantaytambo, with its fortress and its living Inca people and Maras Moray with its impressive Salineras (salt mine). Many of the surrounding communities of the Sacred Valley have created very interesting rural tourism ventures that are worth visiting.
The Sacred Valley of the Incas is located between 6600 to 9300 ft. The valley has the best climate in the entire Cusco region; it varies during the day between 70° to 80° F. At night it drops from 50° to 52° F.
